August in New Smyrna Beach: The Month Flagler Avenue Runs on Overlap

August 6, 2026

If you live here, you already know the rhythm. June belongs to Seaside Fiesta, July belongs to fireworks and out-of-town cousins, and August is supposed to be the quiet stretch before school routines take over. That reading of the calendar is wrong. August is the single month when the most Flagler Avenue programming stacks on top of itself, and the residents who plan around the overlap rather than fight it get the best version of the beachside all summer.

This guide is a resident's map of the collisions, not a visitor's checklist. Every event below is running concurrently for at least part of the month, which means the question is not what to do but which two things to do on the same walk.

The Thursday problem: Shrimp & Seafood and a concert at Riverside on the same night

The most useful thing to know about August 6 is that two of the month's best evenings are scheduled against each other. The Shrimp & Seafood Festival takes place Thursday, August 6th 2026 from 5pm to 9pm along Flagler Avenue, and the same night at Riverside Park, Adam's Edge plays the Summer Concert Series at 6:30pm at 105 S. Riverside Drive.

If you have out-of-town family in town, Flagler wins. If you have a folding chair, a cooler, and neighbors you actually like, cross the bridge to Riverside. The mistake is trying to do both. Parking on the beachside during the festival window resets any advantage you thought you had by leaving early, and by the time you get to Riverside, the good grass is gone.

A workable compromise: eat early on Flagler, walk one lap for the shrimp, then leave by 7:15 for the second half of the concert. Locals who have done this before know to park on the mainland first and Uber over the bridge.

The three passports you can carry at the same time

The reason August feels different from July is that three separate progressive tasting programs are running in parallel through most of the month. You can literally be enrolled in all three at once.

Program Runs through What it is
Wine on Wednesday Every Wednesday from June 3rd through August 26th, 2026 $1 off all glasses of wine or happy hour pricing every Wednesday from 4pm to 6pm at participating host locations along Flagler Avenue
2026 Summer Cocktail Tour Runs from July 10th through August 29th, with multiple takes on the Summer Cocktail Map-based tour across Flagler bars
Great NSB Surfboard Hunt June 20th through August 22nd, 2026 Pick up your map along Flagler Avenue at The Seahorse Inn or at the first surfboard you find, walk the Avenue looking for hidden surfboards at host locations, get a stamp at each, and drop the completed map at The Seahorse Inn at 423 Flagler Avenue for a chance at a free stay

The Surfboard Hunt is the one most residents skip and shouldn't. It is the closest thing NSB has to a scavenger game built for people who already walk the Avenue on Saturday mornings. If you have kids or a visiting niece with a phone camera, this is a two-hour Saturday that doesn't cost anything and ends at a coffee shop.

The Cocktail Tour and Wine on Wednesday overlap by design. Wednesday evenings on Flagler between now and August 26 are the cheapest they will be all year.

The Saturday grid

August has five Saturdays, and each has a different center of gravity. The one that gets missed is the first, because Canal Street tends to fly under the radar for people who live near the beachside.

  • Saturday, August 1: Sip & Stroll in the Canal Street Historic District, 1pm to 6pm, tickets $25 including a self-guided passport, drink tickets, wristband, and souvenir glass, with craft beer and wine from 11 participating locations. If you have never done Canal on the first Saturday, this is the month to fix that.
  • Saturday, August 8: Speedway night. $5 Family Fun Night: Back To School Edition at New Smyrna Speedway on August 8, 2026, featuring Ashley Homes JAX Trucks, Super Stocks, Bomber A and B, Florida Southern Ground Pounders, ReCon Mod Minis, and Spectator Races. Five dollars a person for a night out is a number worth remembering.
  • Saturday, August 15: Heat Wave Pro Late Model 60 & E-Mod 60 at the Speedway, featuring Hoosier Pro Late Models, Sportsman, E-Mod, and the Midatlantic Marketing 602 Tour Type Modifieds. A different crowd than Family Fun Night. Bring earplugs if you are new to it.
  • Saturday, August 22: Augtoberfest at the Speedway, featuring J&C Gradall Florida Modifieds, Ashley Homes JAX Trucks, Super Stocks, Bomber B, and Florida Southern Ground Pounders, and the last day to turn in your Surfboard Hunt map at The Seahorse Inn.
  • Saturday, August 29: Flagler Avenue Wine Walk, the closer. More on that below.

Layered on top of every Saturday morning is the market. The NSB Farmers Market runs every Saturday, 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at 210 Sams Ave at Old Fort Park / City Hall. If you have been going only sporadically this summer, August is when the local tomato quality peaks and when the produce vendors start rotating in early-fall greens.

What Wine Walk becomes on August 29

The last Saturday of August is the closer of two seasons at once. It is the final night of the Summer Cocktail Tour, which ends the same day, and it is the monthly Wine Walk. That double booking is not on the official flyer, but it is the reason the Avenue feels busier on August 29 than any other Saturday on the calendar.

Buy the Wine Walk passport, but plan the route with the Cocktail Tour in mind. A number of the participating restaurants on both maps overlap, which means one stop can double-dip. Flagler Tavern at 414 Flagler Avenue and Avanu on Flagler at 392 Flagler Avenue tend to sit at the busy end of the strip after 5pm. Start at the beachfront end and walk west if you want your last stop to be your quietest.

For residents who have watched Wine Walk grow over the last decade, the fair criticism is that the crowd has changed. The workaround is timing. The 1pm to 3pm window is almost entirely locals and shop owners. The tourist wave arrives closer to 4pm.

The new addition worth knowing about

The Flagler dining lineup has shifted enough this summer that even people who eat out weekly are behind on it. BelAroma Mediterranean Bistro shows up as a newly opened restaurant in the July 2026 listings, reachable at 386-266-2585. It is the kind of addition that tends to get lost between the festival calendar and the established anchors, and it is worth a first visit before the seasonal returners rediscover it in October.

This dovetails with the broader August food promotion running across town. NSB Coastal Catch Restaurant Month puts a spotlight on the seafood side of the local menu, and it is the quiet backdrop that makes the Shrimp & Seafood Festival feel less like a one-night event and more like the loudest evening in a month-long conversation.

The residents' argument for August, in one line

Every Wednesday is a wine night. Every Saturday morning is a market and every Saturday evening is either a race, a stroll, or a Wine Walk. Two full-scale festivals bracket the month. Three passport programs run at the same time. If you are the person who says every summer that you should walk the Avenue more, the schedule has already done the planning for you.

The trick is not to do all of it. The trick is to pick two nights that overlap on purpose, and then to stop apologizing for skipping the third.
